My work attempts to make music, especially improvised music – AKA jazz – visible.
My working methods are not unlike the jazz musician. That is, the works are executed without sketches or preliminary drawings and/or studies. I come from a family of artists. In my family that is what people are raised to be. My mother, father and their siblings are/were all jazz musicians. My early education was in music and in fact, you could not escape that destiny even if you were inclined to try. In our family, all rituals (and rituals were important there) are conducted to music. Births, deaths, weddings are all acknowledged in this manner. For myself, these practices have been translated into a visual form.
I was born June 15th, 1935 in Chicago Illinois and I currently operate an art studio in Rock Cave West Virginia.
